01  Overview

TikTok in brief.

TikTok ads run in the For You feed between organic videos, full-screen and usually with sound on. You build campaigns in TikTok Ads Manager and manage people, ad accounts and assets in TikTok Business Center.

The platform rewards creative that looks and sounds like TikTok: real people, fast hooks, native text and current formats. Creative wears out quickly, so teams that do well here plan a steady flow of new videos rather than one polished ad.

A good fit

  • Consumer products that can be shown and explained in a short video
  • Apps and games looking for scale with broad audiences
  • Brands working with creators, or able to film native-style content
  • Sellers using TikTok Shop, where it's available

Think twice if

  • You only have polished TV-style creative and no way to make native videos
  • Your product is in a category TikTok prohibits or restricts in your markets
  • Your offer is only suitable for audiences TikTok's age rules keep out of reach

02  Ad formats

Formats worth knowing.

The TikTok formats and options most advertisers start with. Names and availability change by market and account, so check what your account offers.

  • 01

    In-Feed ads

Full-screen vertical video in the For You feed, with a caption, a call-to-action button and a link.

  • 02

    Spark Ads

Ads that promote an existing organic post, yours or a creator's with their authorization, keeping its likes, comments and profile link.

  • 03

    Smart+ campaigns

TikTok's automated campaign type, which hands targeting, bidding and creative combinations to the system.

  • 04

    Lead generation

Forms that open inside TikTok, for collecting sign-ups without leaving the app.

  • 05

    Shopping ads

Video and product ads connected to a catalog or TikTok Shop, where available.

  • 06

    TopView and brand formats

Reserved, high-visibility placements such as the first ad when the app opens, usually bought for awareness.

04  Verification

What gets checked.

TikTok looks at the business behind every advertiser. Have these ready before you order and setup moves faster.

  • Business information

Legal company name, registration details and address, exactly as they appear on your documents.

  • A live website on your own domain

With your company name, contact details, a privacy policy and terms easy to find. TikTok checks that the site and the business behind the ads match.

  • Industry and product details

TikTok asks what you advertise. Some industries need extra documents or qualifications before ads can run.

  • Business Center verification

Verifying your business in Business Center links your organization to its assets and can be required for some features.

  • Secure logins

Turn on two-step verification for everyone with access to the account. Several platforms require it for admins.

05  Policy essentials

The rules that matter most.

In general terms. TikTok's own policies decide, and they change, so read the official text before you launch.

  • Prohibited products

Some products can't be advertised on TikTok at all, and the list differs by country.

  • Restricted industries

Categories such as financial services, dating and alcohol come with extra conditions or documents, or aren't allowed in some countries.

  • Ad creative rules

No misleading claims, exaggerated before-and-after comparisons, or creative that imitates app notifications or interface elements.

  • Age-appropriate ads

Ads must suit the audience they reach, and some categories can only be shown to adults.

  • Landing pages

The page must work on mobile, match the ad and show who the business is.

  • Appeals

Rejected ads and account issues are appealed through TikTok Ads Manager. Fix the issue first. TikTok decides.

Read the source

Ads go through TikTok's standard review, like any advertiser's. Appeals go through TikTok's own process, and TikTok decides.

07  Common mistakes

What usually goes wrong.

The TikTok mistakes we see most often, and what to do instead.

  • Running TV ads on TikTok

Polished brand films look like ads and get skipped.

    Instead

Lead with people, a fast hook and native text. Keep production light.

  • No creative pipeline

Winning videos tire quickly on TikTok.

    Instead

Plan new concepts every week and iterate on the hooks of what works.

  • Ignoring the comments

Comments under Spark Ads and in-feed ads are visible to everyone who sees them.

    Instead

Moderate and reply. Comments shape how the next viewer reads the ad.

  • Unverified events

Broken or duplicated events mislead optimization from day one.

    Instead

Test events with TikTok's own tools before you scale.

08  FAQ

Questions about TikTok.

  • Each service page lists what's included and the price. Tell your manager what you plan to run and they confirm which fits before you pay.

  • Yes, with the creator's authorization for each post, under TikTok's own rules.

  • Yes. Every ad goes through TikTok's standard review under its advertising policies, the same as for any advertiser.

  • Shop setup is separate and depends on TikTok's availability in your market. Ask your manager what applies to you.
